Who we are

dBSea is underwater acoustic modelling software developed by Marshall Day Acoustics and Irwin Carr Consulting. This website is operated by dBSea Ltd. For privacy enquiries, contact us via our contact page.

What data we collect

This website

Fonts are self-hosted and no font data is sent to third parties when you browse the site. Our hosting provider (Vercel) may collect standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) as part of normal web server operation. These logs are used solely for security and performance purposes.

Analytics and marketing cookies

With your consent, we use the following tracking services:

  • Google Analytics 4 (Measurement ID: G-4YCFPJR9CF) — collects anonymised data about how visitors use the site, including pages visited, session duration, and referral sources. This helps us understand how the site is used and improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies on your device. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • LinkedIn Insight Tag (Partner ID: 8095921) — used for conversion tracking and to understand the effectiveness of our LinkedIn advertising. The Insight Tag sets cookies and may collect data about your professional profile if you are a LinkedIn member. See LinkedIn's Privacy Policy.

These services are loaded via Google Tag Manager and are only activated if you accept cookies via the consent banner. If you reject cookies or do not interact with the banner, no tracking scripts are loaded and no cookies are set by these services.

You can change your cookie preference at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site, which will cause the consent banner to reappear.

AI chat assistant

This website includes an optional AI chat assistant. If you choose to use it, your messages are sent to Google's Gemini API for processing. We do not store chat transcripts. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for information on how Google processes this data.

Software licensing

If you purchase or trial dBSea software, we collect your email address for the purpose of licence management. This data is stored on our cloud licence server with encryption at rest.

Lawful basis for processing

We process personal data on the following bases under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR:

  • Consent — analytics and marketing cookies (Google Analytics, LinkedIn Insight Tag) are only set after you explicitly accept them.
  • Contract performance — processing your email address is necessary to provide and manage your software licence.
  • Legitimate interest — server logs are processed for security, abuse prevention, and website performance.

Data retention

Licence-related email addresses are retained for the duration of your licence plus a reasonable period afterward. Server logs are retained according to our hosting provider's standard retention policy.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Request portability of your data
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interest

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us via our contact page.

Third parties

We use the following third-party services:

  • Vercel — website hosting (server logs only)
  • Google Analytics 4 — website analytics (consent required)
  • LinkedIn Insight Tag — marketing and conversion tracking (consent required)
  • Google Tag Manager — manages the loading of analytics and marketing scripts (consent required)
  • Google Gemini API — AI chat assistant (only if you use the chat feature)

We do not sell or share your personal data with any other third parties.
